In a new video filmed at the construction site, the general contractor’s representative explains what rules builders are adhering to and what steps they take when the temperature drops below zero.
Frost isn’t an obstacle in construction if the right technological steps are taken. “Concreting is possible even at temperatures around −5°C if we follow the necessary measures and plan everything down to the last detail, including the timetable for concreting,” says Jan Ševčík, chief construction manager of BRESTT STAVBY a.s.
“The temperature of the formwork in which the concrete is poured shouldn’t fall below −1°C. It’s also necessary to ensure that snow and ice aren’t present in the structure. After the concrete mix is added, it’s essential that we keep the concrete temperature at least at 5°C. That’s why we carefully cover the entire structure and use hot air heaters to maintain the temperature within the required range,” he adds.
