Despite the winter weather, the concreting of the building's structure is continuing and at the end of December we almost finished the foundation slab.
"Even though the weather's been cold recently, our work on the building is continuing according to schedule. People in Brno have noticed that two additional cranes have been added to the site (we currently have four) and for a short time we even had up to five," says Project Leader Tomáš Tschöpl. The four cranes have for now become part of Masaryk Grove's and Kohoutovice's silhouette, which can be viewed from most places in Brno. Each shift at the construction site now numbers fifty workers on average. "Most of the work now consists of formwork, reinforcement, and concreting of the load-bearing part of the building. This entails other types of work such as waterproofing, radon venting, and earthing," adds Tomáš Tschöpl.
What's almost finished is the foundation slab and builders are already concreting the ceilings of the first underground floor in a section of the future complex. What's emerging therefore is the ground floor of the residential section. "Technology allows us to concrete in cold weather down to five degrees celsius as long as we allow the concrete mix to hydrate before it freezes, which is easy for us to do," explains Tschöpl.
An invisible yet important milestone is the completion of the sewerage system. A half-kilometer long connecting pipe will divert wastewater from Nová Myslivna to the Šárka Valley.
